Colour Selections
The facade we've chosen for our house. Ours will look different as we are having six 600mm double hung windows across the front.
Colour selection for the outside of the house
Our PGH brick "Henna"
Since we've been planning this house since June last year we've had quite some time to come up with what we would like to see in our house. Originally we wanted to build another Queenslander style home, after visiting various kit home companies who provided that sort of home. We decided, however that we didn't want to build a house ourselves and that by getting a builder to do it for us it was just simply out of our price range. So, we went on another search to find the home of our dreams. We eventually (after a suggestion by Mum and Paul) found a house that we really liked the outside of, but weren't overly keen on the floor plan. The house had red bricks with white mortar, a black flat tiled roof and a cream portico, garage door and framing around the windows.
We then set about finding out how we could build the home of our dreams, but with a similar facade to the one we'd seen. We went to PGH bricks who were very helpful in finding the colours for the outside of our home. They suggested Henna bricks with a Monier Horizon tile in Sambucca. They even suggested colours for the guttering, fascia, garage door, windows and front door. I can't praise the girls at PGH, Oxley enough. They were so helpful and even gave us colour chips to take with us when we finally get to do our colour selection. The image above shows the colour selection for the outside of our house.
That solved the problem of selecting colours for the outside of the house, but we were still left with deciding on the inside. As most of you would know, I love colour in a home, so I have already decided what colours I want to do in most of the rooms. However, we won't be getting Coral to paint the rooms in these colours as they charge over $200 per wall and we think it's a gross waste of money to get them to paint a room for $800. At this stage we've chosen Dulux Antique White USA for the main wall colours and are hoping that Coral will allow us to choose another colour for the trim. We'd like a whiter white for the trim. We intend to paint the theatre room, our bedroom, Milly's room, the study and the formal lounge dining room when the house is handed over.
Paint colours:
Dulux Antique White USA - all main walls
Dulux Domino (same colour as the trim on our last house was) - theatre room and master bedroom
Dulux Sweet Pink - this colour but only quarter strength (this is way too intense) - Milly's room

Things Are Finally Starting To Happen!
I have no patience.....building a house is probably not a good thing for me to be doing as I seriously don't have the patience for the waiting game that has to happen between every stage. Having said that, I think to date I've been pretty good.
This morning I decided to call Coral to see how things are progressing. They let me know that the contours have been done (yay!), the site supervisor has been to visit our block (yay!) and that they have called for the soil test and that is expected back in the next week or two. Once they have all of that they'll do the plans up and we'll have a contract to sign. We've decided to speed the process up by going up to do our colour selection prior to signing so that it is all good to go once we've signed. From contract signing it then goes to council and the covenant mob to be approved and we take the contract to the bank.... or is it the other way around? Regardless of that, things are finally progressing.
I opened my email this morning to find the plans for our kitchen and laundry so I thought I'd pop them on here along side a picture of our bathroom vanities. It's all getting very exciting!!!

Our First Picnic!
Since nothing is really happening on the block at the moment and we enjoy going out there, we decided to meet with out neighbours, Anita, Conor and Charlotte and have a picnic on the block this morning. The kids had a great time running around on both of our blocks and we had a good time sticky nosing in other people's houses. There are three houses going up at different rates at the moment. One is only at plumbing stage, another at frames and the third has it's roof on. It's all very exciting to see although it would be more exciting if it was ours.
We also met our neighbour on the downside of our block this morning. They have two children - both girls - so it will be lovely when we all move in. They too are building with Coral homes. Hopefully we'll both have something happening soon!

The block is clear!
In order for us to be able to have a soil test done, Coral Homes wanted the building envelope cleared of all the mulch/dirt that the developer had piled up at the back and side of the block. Over the weekend we had it all moved off the envelope. It's amazing how much bigger our block now looks. We have a couple of piles of mess to clean up down the back of the block now, but it certainly has made things look better.

The Start of Our Dream
Matt and I finally signed up with a builder on the weekend after what seems like months and months of planning. We've been dreaming of doing this now since May last year after a visit to a display village in Victoria. Over the last ten months our plans have gone back and forth with different kit home companies and builders until, finally, on Saturday, we signed up to build a modified version of Coral Homes' Hamilton. We've haven't changed the layout really, other than to change the orientation of the lounge/dining room, but we have changed the sizes of the rooms to allow extra space in case our family ever grows. The picture shows how we plan to lay out our lot. Coral have indicated that it will take about four months before they're even on our block and then another four to five after that to build it so we're pretty sure we won't be in before February next year. That should give us ample time to save for the things we want to fill our house up with!
